Melbourne Sandbelt Courses

Royal Melbourne
East Course, par 72, 6030 metres
West Course, par 72, 6023 metres

Designed by Dr. Alister Mackenzie the composite layout has long been ranked in the worlds top 10 and features all of the strategic elements characteristic to links golf that make Royal Melbourne challenging for the professional golfer, yet playable for the amateur.

Kingston Heath
Par 72, 6336 metres, Dr. Alister Mackenzie
Another masterpiece of sculptured bunkering and unforgettable par three's. Kingston Heat has hosted seven Australian Opens, seven Australian Matchplay championships, two TPC's, seven Victorian Opens and Australasian qualifying venue for the British Open 2004.

Metropolitan
Par 72; 6,345 metres
In 1930 Walter Hagen said Metro was 'by far the finest course I've played in Australia'. Host of seven Australian Opens, five Australian PGAs and the 2001 US PGA Tour WGC Matchplay Championship. Acclaimed as having the best fairway turf in the country - in 2001 Stuart Appleby said, 'It was better conditioned than Augusta!' Recent improvements included additional length and bunkers, making this an even sterner test of championship links golf.

The Mornington Peninsula

Moonah Links Open course - par 72; 6,783 metres
Legends course - par 72; 6,315 metres

Hosted the Australian Open for the first time in late 2003. Five times British Open champion Peter Thomson created what he described as the culmination of his life's work among the magnificent dunes land. All golfers need to plot their way around his masterpiece, taking care to avoid the penal bunkering set strategically into this rolling layout on the Mornington Peninsula. The new Legends course adds additional diversity and challenge to this wonderful resort facility.

The National
Moonah course - par 72; 6,576 metres
Ocean course - par 72; 6,552 metres
Old course - par 72; 6,313 metres
Arguably the toughest test of links golf requiring the Moonah course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr will test the best in the game, whilst offering the club handicap golfer an unforgettable links golfing experience. Two more layouts by Greg Norman and Peter Thomson make The National Golf Club a jewel in the peninsula. Everything about the National is impressive. Fairways and greens are near perfect and the bunkering strategically superb. Magnificent views of the Bass Strait coastline.

The Dunes
Par 72; 6,409 metres
The Dunes has earned a well-deserved reputation as a true links course, without doubt one of Australia's best. Like all links layouts, wind determines how tough it plays. As the round unfolds, golfers face some awe-inspiring shots often taking on dramatic carries between the sand dunes. The spectacular par five 12th hole is a double dogleg created by sandy wasteland that threatens both the drive and second shot.

The Cape at Cape Schanck
Par 70, 6015 metres
Carved out of giant sand dunes and lined by tee tree by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The Cape commands finesse, accuracy and patience. Consistent with all courses here on the Peninsula the wind adds the degree of complexity that makes this course play longer than it's 6015 metres.
